Manual / People & congregation

Groups, cells and committees

Create groups that meet, let people join them, add members in bulk, and message or filter by group.

Open in WorshipHQ

Groups are for people who meet together: small groups, ministries, committees, fellowships and cells. The Groups page shows how many groups you have, how many people are in one, which meet regularly and which are open to sign-ups. Filter by type, search, and sort by name or size.

Smart suggestions

When you have no groups yet, the Groups page offers Start with the groups most churches use: ministries and teams (Choir, Ushers, Media, Prayer Warriors), fellowships (Men's, Women's, Youth, Singles, Couples), student communities (Basic School, SHS, Tertiary, Young Professionals), home cells and committees. Tap the ones you want and choose Create. Later, an Ideas for your church strip offers groups you do not have yet; tap one to create it. If you have teens or children, it suggests a Teens Fellowship and Sunday School. If you already use zones or fellowships, it links you to turn them into groups.

Message a group, and let leaders do it

On a group, choose Message group to text everyone in it. The text starts with the group's name (for example "Asokwa Cell: ..."), so people know which group is checking on them, even though every text goes out from your church's one sender ID.

To let a group's leader do it themselves, go to Communications, then SMS credits, and switch on Let group leaders message their own group. Then a leader (set as the group's Leader, and with access to the Groups page) sees Message group on their own group only. Their text ends with their name, goes by SMS, uses your credits, and is limited to 3 a day per group.

Create a group

  1. 1Go to Groups and choose New group.
  2. 2Give it a Name (e.g. Youth Fellowship) and choose a Type, or type your own.
  3. 3Add a Description, Location and Leader (optional).
  4. 4Tap each day the group meets and set its time. Leave the time blank if it varies.
  5. 5Tick Let people choose this group when they sign up if members may pick it themselves.
  6. 6Choose Create.

Add or remove members

  1. 1Open the group (choose Members on its card).
  2. 2Choose Add people, search by name or phone and tick as many people as you like, then choose Add.
  3. 3Use the cross next to a name to remove someone.

Let people pick their group

  1. 1On each group you want people to choose, tick Let people choose this group when they sign up.
  2. 2Go to Settings, Links & forms, open the member (or teens or children's) form, and choose Add a standard question, Groups you would like to join.
  3. 3Save the form. New people can now tick the groups they want, and you can add or change a person's groups yourself on their record.

Filter and message by group

  • On People and Member directory, use All groups to see just one group.
  • In Attendance, Group is one of the ways to see who came and who did not.
  • Choose Message on a group's card to text or email everyone in it, or pick the group when you send an SMS from Communications.

Meeting reminders

  1. 1Edit the group and tick Remind the group of meetings (pick meeting days first).
  2. 2Choose Send automatically (a set number of days before, or on a set day of the week, at a set time) or Send manually.
  3. 3Edit the message if you like, and save.

A different reminder time for each day

A group that meets on more than one day can have a reminder time for each. Under the reminder settings, tick Different reminder time for each meeting day. Then for every meeting day choose when its reminder goes out: for example the day before for Sunday, but the same day at 7:00 AM for Wednesday. You can also choose Don't remind for a day. Days you leave on Same as above follow the group's usual time.
